Triple Play: Half Hexagons Quilt Tutorial

Quilt Size: 47" x 54"

We have a new tradition here at Missouri Star: Triple Play! Once a month, Jenny, Misty, and Natalie each demonstrate their own, unique take on a specific block, technique, or template. This week these talented Doan ladies are demonstrating three new ways to use the magnificent Half Hexi template.

Natalie's "Half Hexagon Links" is made with 2.5 inch strips of precut fabric (jelly rolls). She used Floralicious Batiks Strips by Kathy Engle for Island Batik.

Misty's "Half Hexi Whirligigs" is made with 10 inch squares of precut fabric (layer cakes). She used an Abby Rose Layer Cake by Robin Pickens for Moda Fabrics. This pattern does require y-seams, but you'll be surprised just how fun and simple they are! Misty also created an adorable little whirligig table runner using the same technique!

Jenny's "Half Hexagon Boats and Braids" is made with 10 inch squares of precut fabric (layer cakes). She chose Lemon Grass Batiks Stacks by Kathy Engle for Island Batik. This quilt is filled with little sailboats and bordered with an easy hexi braid.
