Missouri Star sells different types of quilting rulers because people process information differently. A ruler that makes perfect sense to one person may look like a complicated scramble of lines to someone else. Jenny frequently says that quilters need to choose tools that match the way their brains work, so we offer options.


We all probably agree that rulers ought to measure accurately. Omnigrid is a quilting tools manufacturer that takes pride in the precision of its measuring tools. All cuts on Omnigrid rulers are made by precision lasers. There is a patented sight line in the center of the ruler. The ink on Omnigrid quilting rulers is printed on the underside. If the ink were printed on the top of the ruler, a shadow could cause the user to make an inaccurate cut.


Speaking of the ink used on Omnigrid quilting rulers, the colors were carefully chosen to be visible on light and dark fabrics. The rulers are designed for ease of use by both right and left-handers. The Omnigrip rulers will slide across fabric until you apply downward pressure, then they will grip while you cut.


Omnigrid square rulers are particularly popular. You may purchase the original Omnigrid square and the Omnigrip square ruler from Missouri Star in several different sizes–from a 2½” square to a 12½” square.


To make the best use of your quilting rulers, you may enjoy using an Omnigrid cutting mat and Omnigrid rotary cutter. (Yes, Missouri Star carries Omnigrid replacement blades for the Omnigrid rotary cutter.) You can count on Omnigrid to manufacture your Omnigrid mat with the same attention to detail and accuracy given to their rulers. Don’t watch this video demonstration of the Omnigrid rotating cutting mat! If you do, you are going to want one. (Just trust us on this.)
