Block of the Month Quilt Kits – BOM Subscriptions & Complete Kits

How a Block of the Month Subscription Works

When you sign up, your first shipment goes out right away. Some programs start as a pre-order, and the listing shows the date the first month ships. After that, the next part of your kit ships in the first week of each month. Each package has the fabric and instructions for that month’s block or section, and your subscription ends once the last month ships. You pay for the quilt a little at a time instead of all up front, and the final shipments bring everything together into a finished quilt top.

Subscription or Complete Kit?

Monthly subscriptions are the classic BOM. A new package arrives every month, so you have something to look forward to and a steady pace that keeps a big project from piling up. Complete kits include every month’s fabric and instructions in one box. They’re a good fit if you like to sew straight through, want to work ahead, or are buying a gift. Either way, you can sew at your own pace.

What’s Included?

Every program includes the pattern and the fabric for the quilt top. Borders and binding are usually part of the later months. Backing varies by program, so check the listing. Some offer a matching backing or a coordinating thread pack sold separately. Many of our exclusive BOMs come with video tutorials for each block, and they stay available for you to watch whenever you’re ready. Block of the Month FAQs

What if I fall behind?

Lots of quilters do, and that’s fine. Each month’s package is labeled, so you can catch up whenever you have time. Reviewers who are a few months behind say it still comes together. Any video tutorials for your program stay available, so you can watch them when you get to that block.

Is backing fabric included?

It depends on the program. Check the listing to see whether backing is included or sold separately. If you order a matching backing, look at the width: a standard 44” backing needs to be pieced, while a 108” wide backing covers most quilts in one piece.

Do I need to cut pieces for later months?

Some patterns have you cut pieces for several blocks at once. Customers recommend labeling and bagging each set as you cut, and measuring any precut squares before you start so you can square them up if needed.

Are there video tutorials?

Many Missouri Star Block of the Month programs include videos for each block, and reviewers say watching them first makes the steps much clearer. Check the listing for your program.

Can two BOM programs ship together?

No. Each program has its own assembly and shipping schedule, so they ship separately, each with its own tracking number. You can check your shipments in your Missouri Star account.
