So, what is a quilt kit? A complete quilt kit is designed to be less time consuming than starting a quilt from scratch and contains all the material needed to make a quilt top, usually fabric and the quilt pattern, like quilt fabric kits and quilt block kits.


If you find cutting fabric intimidating or time consuming, consider a precut quilt kit! These kits are just like any kind of kit for quilting, except the fabric is already precut for you—that saves a lot of time and patience! The same goes for quilt panel kits.


Quilt kits typically don’t include all the supplies. If you are indeed a beginner, you might be wondering what supplies you need to make a quilt. You already know that quilt kits have the fabric and pattern covered, but you’ll need to make sure you’ve got a sewing machine, thread, needles, fabric scissors, rulers, and an iron to begin.


Quilting kits are great introductory projects into quilting and sewing because they not only come with everything you need, they’re fun and easy! Missouri Star Tutorial Kits FAQ

What comes in a tutorial quilt kit?+

Fabric quilt kits include the pattern and fabric for the quilt top, and most also include the binding fabric. For example, the Harvest Delight Building Blocks Quilt Kit includes the pattern and fabric for the quilt top and binding, and the Honeycomb fabric kits add a large hexagon acrylic template. Each product page lists exactly what is in the box.

Is backing fabric included?+

Usually not. Backing is sold separately on these kits, and each product page lists how much you need. The Honeycomb Indigo kit, for example, calls for 4 3/4 yards of 44/45" fabric or 2 yards of 108" wide backing, and The Piecemaker complete kit needs 3 yards.

What is in the Garden Friends Embroidery Kit?+

The octagon tin holds 10 Missouri Star Perle Cotton thread colors, 44 pre-printed Peel & Stitch designs, 39 full-color instruction cards, a 7" birch wood hoop, embroidery scissors, two embroidery needles, a needle threader, a magnetic needle minder and the Garden Friends Honeycomb Quilt Pattern.

Does the crazy quilt embroidery kit include fabric?+

No. Our History in Stitches: A Crazy Quilt Embroidery Kit includes the pattern, a memory book, Peel & Stitch sheets, Perle cotton floss, a hoop, needles and acrylic templates. The fabric comes in the separate Crazy Quilt Fabric Stash kit, which has a pattern and about 9 yards across 37 fabrics.

What skill level are these kits?+

It varies by kit and is listed on each product page. The Harvest Delight quilt kit and the Garden Friends Embroidery Kit are marked Beginner, while The Piecemaker Block of the Month is marked Intermediate.
