Q: How much does machine quilting cost?
A: Edge-to-edge machine quilting is $.03 per square inch. This price includes thread and batting.
Q: How much does binding cost?
A: We offer two types of binding services: hand binding, which is priced at .50 cents per linear inch, and machine binding, which is priced at .25 cents per linear inch.
Q: Do you bind zig zag or curved edges.
A: No we do not. These types of edges require bias binding, and this we do not do. We will only bind straight edges.
Q: I would like to order backing that is not on the list. What should I do?
A: Please contact Customer Service as soon as you place the order, and we will ensure that the fabric you order is stored and waiting for your quilt top to join it at the Machine Quilting Services department. A phone call is best, (888)571-1122, as our cutting department works 24 hours a day, and your backing may ship in customer service after hours.
Q: Is the return shipping included in the price?
A: Yes, standard shipping rates apply for domestic orders. If your order is under $59, a return shipping cost of $5.99 will be included. If your order is over $59, the return shipping is free, as always.
Orders being shipped to Canada will include a $20 return shipping fee.
International Orders:

We always insure packages; they will be sent to FedEx Ground, and a signature will be required for pick up.
Q: Can I send in my own batting?
A: Yes, you may send in your own batting. Batting is included in the price for quilting services, so the price will remain the same whether or not you provide the batting. If you decide to send your own batting, please add that information to the Give Any Additional Instructions section when placing your order and make sure it is larger than your quilt top to ensure that we have enough excess to load it onto the longarm quilting machine. If the batting is placed in the same order as your Machine Quilting order, please contact our Customer Service team right away.
Q: I have a pieced top and backing. Can you do that?
A: Yes, we can, but we do not recommend pieced backings. We will do our best, but we cannot guarantee that the backing will be centered on the top. Also, tops will shrink, or draw up, during the quilting process, and the bottom of your pieced backing may not make it into the top. We have no way to predict how much draw up will occur, and can, depending on the size of the quilt, be up to five inches.
Q: What is back-stitching?
A: If you send your quilt backing to us in pieces, we will sew the pieces together to complete the quilt back before we machine quilt the entire project.
Q: Can you trim my quilt for me?
A: If you don’t wish to have your quilt bound, we will complete the machine quilting and send it right back to you as-is. As a rule, we don’t trim quilts unless we are binding them in-house.
Q: Do you offer transparent thread?
A: At this time, we don’t offer transparent threads. If you don’t wish to see the stitching, we will try our best to choose a matching thread color to help it blend as much as possible.
Q: What if I want a different thread color that is not listed?
A: On the ordering form, you may choose from 21 beautiful thread color families. The quilter will then choose a shade within that color family. If you would like to leave a note in the Give Any Additional Instructions section about the thread color, please do so, and the quilter will then choose the best shade that matches your quilt with those notes in mind.
Q: Can I choose two different threads for machine quilting?
A: For quality assurance, we always use the same color on the top of the quilt as we do in the bobbin. Using two different colors can occasionally cause tension issues, and there is no way to guarantee that only one of the thread colors will show through on either side of the quilt.
Q: Are there restrictions on what kind of project can be sent in?
A: We can quilt most types of fabric. We cannot quilt anything that could break our needles, such as zippers, buttons, etc.
Q: My quilt will have rounded corners - should I trim before you quilt or after?
A: It is not recommended to round the corners or edges before quilting. Doing so creates a bias cut that can easily stretch or distort the quilt. It is better to wait until after it is quilted to round the corners.
Q: I want to add prairie points to my quilt. Do I need to do that before it is quilted?
A: If prairie points are attached before quilting, they will be stitched down using our edge-to-edge quilting method. We are unable to quilt around them. This also applies to open or pocketed squares, flying geese, flanged borders, ricrac, or other embellishments not completely attached to the quilt top.
Q: I have a block/border that I don’t want to be quilted. Can you leave it unquilted?
A: At this time, we cannot offer custom quilting. Omitting blocks and borders from quilting is not part of our Machine Quilting Services. We currently offer edge-to-edge quilting services only, so the same pattern will be used from top to bottom and left to right.
Q: Can I use satin for the backing?
A: We do not recommend using satin or satin like fabrics for the backing of your quilt. The fibers used to make these fabrics are so fine, that instead of separating during quilting, they can be cut, resulting in runs in the fabric.
Q: I have some areas of lace on my quilt top, can this be quilted over?
A: We can quilt over lace if it is thoroughly stitched down, with no loose edges that can catch the hopper foot.
Q: I would like the quilter to choose my pattern, but there are ones I definitely don't want.
A: You can still choose Quilter's Choice for a pattern. In the comments section of the order form, you would leave any notes regarding ones you do not want used, as well as a style you would like. The quilter will then choose from only those that fit your parameters.
Q: Can I request a ship date on my completed quilt?
A: Once a quilt is completed and ready for shipping, we cannot hold it to send at a later date. Fed Ex will attempt to deliver several times. If no one is available to sign for the package, it is returned to us. You can update the return address for your quilt before it ships, to an address that will have someone available. Or, once shipped, you can sign up for package manager on the Fed Ex site, and choose an alternate address for delivery.
