Amy Barickman’s AnyTime Topper

Amy Barickman’s AnyTime Topper pattern is as fun to make as it is to wear! It is a perfect apparel pattern for quilters- just straight line stitching. A wrap, shrug, robe or beach cover-up, this versatile style can go from casual to a cocktail party. Watch Amy and Misty share tips for constructing this “cardigan” style top, as well as many options for fabric including some great ideas for upcycling thrift shop finds and vintage textiles, don’t miss the gorgeous version made from a lace tablecloth version.

The pattern includes two sizes and three lengths. We loved Robert Kaufman’s Essex Linen for this pattern. There are so many colors in solids, stripes and checks. Keep in mind this is a perfect project to make for family and friends.

If you are planning to sew gifts for the holidays, how about making a matching set: an AnyTime Topper companioned with Amy's Fold & Go Folio storage case pattern.

Jenny shared a Live tutorial for the sewing version of the Fold & Go Folio during National Quilting Month. The pattern also includes a jewelry version: the needle keep cleverly doubles as an earring holder and the large drawstring bag holds bracelets.

Batiks are a wonderful choice for the pattern since dye usually saturates to both sides of the fabric, which makes them ideal for this pattern. Rayon batik will drape beautifully and cotton batiks will have a more structured look.

Yarn-dyed woven fabrics also work well for this pattern since the front and back side are usually nearly identical. Here is an example of a favorite Andover woven.

Now for a couple upcycling ideas:

Amy wore an AnyTime Topper made from a block printed tablecloth at QuiltCon this year and grabbed a photo with Jenny (below). The pattern includes instructions to work with border prints. The pattern format is a fold-out style with a QR code that will lead to BONUS material including a cutting layout PDF, videos and a Look Book.

When it comes to table cloth, a square or a rectangle can work for this pattern. Below is the lace version. Simple design with stunning results with the AnyTime Topper! You can achieve stunning results with this simple design. It’s all about the fabric and that’s why we love it and know you will too!

Below is an example of a quilt top upcycled along with denim from a chambray shirt. To see more fabric ideas for the pattern visit Amy’s blog Introducing the AnyTime Topper.
