Not as easy as the tutorial looks

I was so excited to get this pattern after watching Jenny do the tutorial. It looked so easy. It was easy until I went to sqaure up the block. The pattern said to put the 4 inch mark on the vertial seam of the wonky 4 patch to square up the block. I even got a new 8 and 1/2 Creative Grids ruler for this. When I put the ruler where it was supposed to go, There wasn't enough fabric on the right side of the block to square it up. I tried moving the ruler so it fit on the wonky block, but then it...
