What is a notion? Now that is a question that seems simple but isn’t really. Scissors, pins, and measuring tapes can all be categorized as tools-used-to-sew-things. But snaps, buttons, and elastic are things that you incorporate into things sewn; you don’t reuse them. Yet, all of these things are called notions!
Sewing notions defy classification and tidy definition. This one suits our needs fairly well: “ A notion is any item that assists in the creation of a sewn work.”
