Quick to put together, awesome baby quilt!

I haven’t been quilting too long, but this was by far the fastest quilt I have ever sewn! The cutting of the fabric took the most mental capacity for this project, because there were many different lengths to cut from the background fabric. After that, it went together easily. I like making regular size quilts for baby gifts so the child will be able to enjoy the quilt when they are grown too. This was made for a baby born in Fall, and Deb Strain’s “Harvest Wishes” fat quarters by Moda fit the Fall theme perfectly! I chose to use the scraps of the dark fabric to make a scrappy binding, so I did buy need to buy one additional fat quarter in order to have enough strips of navy blue to make it all the way around the quilt. If I wanted to use the scraps of all the colors to make a really scrappy binding, it would be easy to do because there is enough left over fabric from the fat quarters. (I just chose to keep the binding scraps in the same color-way for this quilt.) I used a bright, cheery yellow for the backing. Here’s a surprise bonus if you are using this pattern for a baby quilt: the plus signs on the quilt could signify the family’s new “addition.” Cute, huh?

    Beginner Friendly, Easily Adaptable

I used this pattern for the second quilt I have ever made and this was my first using a pattern. The pattern, written for fat quarters, was easy to adapt for yardage. To keep to the primary color pallet I wanted to use, I also adjusted for only six accent colors/patterns I instead of the 8 or 9 written in the pattern. The diagram of the quilt in the digital pattern was easy to screenshot and plug into digital art software on my iPad to test colors. When sewing the first and second rows together, I sewed the wrong sides together. Instead of ripping out a 60 inch seam, I decided to work the rest of the pattern backwards! I am super happy with the final result and glad that this was a VERY forgiving pattern to work with. It is perfect for beginners or anyone getting back into the groove after an absence from their machine.
