Disappointed

The section using the half rectangles was designed poorly and instead of redesigning them, the designer added a white strip to cover the mistake. But the directions for sewing the half rectangles together were not detailed enough to make them come out uniform. As a result I could not make the white strip even and was frequently sewing a piece on top of the seam allowance, which added unnecessary bulk. There were 2 places where 8 layers of material came together when assembling the main block and these were hard on my sewing needle and impossible to get to lay flat. As a result I had to totally redesign that portion of the block so I could finish the quilt without breaking needles and ruining my tension. I was lucky I has a little extra red fabric to cut my new pieces.
