The History Behind Olfa Products


In 1956, Yoshio Okada was snapping apart sections of a Hershey bar, which sparked an idea that eventually became the Snap-Off Blade Cutter, the flagship product that launched the Olfa brand. The name Olfa comes from two Japanese words that mean “to break a blade” and even the letters in the Olfa logo are designed to look like snap-off blades!


Starting with just one Olfa knife, Olfa has grown into an international company that manufactures hundreds of cutting-related products.


But the innovation didn’t stop there: Mr. Okada literally changed the way the planet cuts fabric when he invented the Olfa rotary cutter - also known as the very first rotary cutter – in 1979.

    OLFA Blades

    Standard Olfa blades are made with stainless steel, while Endurance blades are made with Tungsten, which is considered one of the strongest metals in the world.
