Quilting Product Description

Spring has sprung, and so has your next burst of creativity! Volume 12, Issue 2 of BLOCK Magazine is bursting with fresh ideas and quilting inspiration. In this issue, we’re heading to Hamilton, Missouri—home of Missouri Star Academy! It’s where quilters from all over come together to laugh, learn, and create in a one-of-a-kind celebration of community and craft.

On this month’s cover, you’ll meet featured designer Jemima Flendt of Tied with a Ribbon, who’s not afraid to go big with color and bold with style. Her quilting journey started young—and her passion still shines bright. We’re also continuing our “What If?” series with a bold remix of the classic Bear Paw quilt. It’s traditional with a twist—and we think you’ll love the modern edge!

Got heirloom quilts tucked away in a closet? We’ve got expert tips for caring for and displaying those precious family treasures so they can shine for generations to come. Speaking of gems, this issue also features a beginner’s guide to English Paper Piecing (EPP), complete with tips for using templates and a “berry” fun wearable project you won’t want to miss!

In our Quilter’s Test Lab, we’re diving deep into thread talk—breaking down brands, sizes, and how to pick the perfect spool for your project. Our Community Connection challenge is in full swing too, featuring real projects from readers like you. And for the multi-crafty makers out there, we’ve got a crochet-inspired quilt border that ties both hobbies together beautifully.

And of course, no issue of BLOCK would be complete without 10 FREE patterns to stitch your way through spring! Look out for a table runner to help you celebrate springtime, a wall hanging that’s perfect for the Fourth of July, and fresh quilts to grow your skills. This issue is packed with fresh projects to grow your skills and warm your heart. So, let your creativity bloom—grab your copy and start stitching in the season!

Fractured Half-Hexagons

I love the color and delicate look of this table runner. I’ve ear-marked that page as something to make after I finish the quilt on my quilting machine. Also, I loved the “Test Lab.” My quilting friends and I just did a study on different types of batting. We made two samples for each type of batting. On each page, we quilted half of the page with a tight, small design (like stippling) and the other half with a more loose design (like a meander). One page was washed and the other wasn’t. We...

Dropped The Ball

I’ve subscribed to the Block magazine since 2014. I’ve purchased each years ‘sleeve’ to display/store them. When you stopped new sleeves with the year marked on them I was disappointed. Then the change of the size and style threw me for a loop. Now what? I stopped opening them. Next will be to cancel this subscription.

Outstanding Block Magazine

I enjoying receiving the Block magazine. It has become my “go to” when I am looking for my next quilting project. I also like the fact that Missouri Star is branching off into English Paper Piecing and embroidery. The magazine is a great addition to my quilting library.

Block Magazine Ages Well

I believe that Block magazine will stand the proverbial test of time as it ages. After all, this is year 12 and it continues to get better each year! I love the mix of old and new quilt patterns, as well as the fresh takes on old things. I’m not so sure I’m so crazy for the “mixed media” projects…things that aren’t quilty in nature, but I’ m sure it appeals to many younger than me! The new size, however, messes up by shelving of the issues as they will no longer fit on the shelf that always...

As always I was not disappointed with the latest issue of Block! I love the paper it’s printed on, it makes the magazine so durable. The what if Bear Paw is adorable as are all the patterns. The article on heirloom quilts is informative and interesting. I have been receiving Block since volume 2 and have acquired most of volume 1. I reference them quite often. They are a fantastic value.

New style-same great magazine

Kudos to MSQ and their new design. I wasn't sure if I'd like the new size and sometimes change can be hard-but I took the magazine with me on a trip and fit perfectly in my laptop bag. Still had the same great content and the digital copy lets me read wherever I go. I'm pulling fabric from my stash today and starting the Carrie Quilt after Memorial Day. Hoping to get it done before the next issue lands in my mailbox. Great job team!

So inspiring!

This issue is formatted a little differently than past issues, and I really like it! There are quite a few wonderful projects - I love the variety from table runners to full size quilts! The one I really want to try is called "Saved by the Bell" - I'll get to use my 60-degree triangle ruler again for it (I hate buying a tool and only using it once!) I love that there are no ads in the magazine and the stories inside are fun to read!
