Established in 1983, Aurifil is an accomplished Italian company based near Milano, with a full-grown experience in producing superior quality cotton threads for professional and domestic quilters. Aurifil threads are made from Long Staple Egyptian Mako cotton.

The 40 weight Mako (cotton), slightly heavier than the 50 weight, is ideal for all types of hand and machine work, from piecing and appliqué, to straight line and free motion machine quilting, and embroidery. This fine thread creates a fine seam when piecing, and stands out well in machine quilting. The 40 weight is ideal for backtracking, and heavy background design work. The 40 weight can be used on home sewing machines, and long arm quilting machines. Use an 80/12 Sharp/Microtex, denim or top stitching needle for best results.

My machine loves Aurifil !

I've used Aurifil 50 wt for years. Recently I read that many quilters are using 40 wt for their quilting. So I decided to try it. I have yet to piece with it. But I'm looking forward to! I gave this 5 stars because I have never sewn with an aurifil I didn't like!
