Quilting Product Description

Create a beautifully unique quilt made with vibrant African wax fabrics and give back to a community in Rwanda, Africa. The Ubushobozi is a women's cooperative that teaches young girls the skills they need to be successful and provide income for their families. Ubushobozi means power and ability. Purchasing this kit helps benefit the Ubushobozi Collective. This pieced quilt kit contains a pattern and Authentic African Prints for the top and binding, including precut 5" squares, by the Ubushobozi Women's Collective. The wax prints are a form of non-verbal communication among African women. Each print has meaning and they are used in many of their cultural celebrations and have become collectible.
Backing sold separately, 3 yards needed. We recommend Kona Premium - Jet Black Yardage.
The hand dyed cotton fabrics included in this kit are stiff due to the manufacturing process of the cloth. After you have made your project, machine wash it in cold water on gentle cycle and dry on a delicate setting or air dry. The fabrics will soften and the waxy sheen will dissipate.

I finished the table runner and adore it! It adds so much to our dining table. (I did shorten the length, but now have extra squares for my other two quilts.) I have worked with African waxed fabrics before, and these are high quality!

Beautiful Quilt

I absolutely love this quilt! It was super easy and fast to complete and the finished quilt just glows! The colors are so bright and happy. And to know that I am helping a village of women in Rwanda makes it even more beautiful.

Love the way it came out!

I didn't know anything about working with waxed fabrics so it was fun to learn something new. I LOVED the end result and the story about the woman and the meaning of the fabrics is wonderful. I hand quilt so it was a bit challenging to quilt the printed fabric but I quilted all the border pieces first and then quilted the blocks from the back and it worked our perfectly!

A beautful quilt! The charm squares was stiff due to the wax which sew very nice in the sewing machine. I was concern that the wax will come off on to the iron, but the iron was fine. I had 4 extra charm square which I am planning on making a throw pillow. Love the history of the quilt.

The Ruler Isn't Always Right

I loved making this quilt. I am a neophyte beginner, and I bought this kit to build a quilt, from beginning to end. I appreciated that the squares were pre-cut (it would have been nice had all the sashing also been cut), and I subbed a dark denim for the black sashing and backing. I didn't get the memo about mixing up the little squares, and I matched all of them. And, I thought the decorative stitching would enhance the quilt, but I think, in retrospect, it's a bit much.
