In 1897, Queen Victoria celebrated 60 years of being queen of the British Empire: her Diamond Jubilee. Folks took it as an opportunity to party like they’d never partied before, and they came up with some pretty interesting ways to celebrate:
Men participated in “Cigar and Umbrella Races,” competitions where you must complete a course while keeping your umbrella open and your cigar lit. One town released a balloon shaped like the queen from the church tower. Tightrope walkers held a mid-air picnic! Some towns threw bonfires with beacons built 60-feet tall. People obviously got VERY creative. But how do you celebrate when you are one of the world’s most accomplished chefs? Auguste Escoffier, one of France’s most famous chefs of all time, created a new dish just for the occasion, and he called it “Cherries Jubilee.” It’s one of those dishes they wheel out to the table and light on fire before serving it, perfect for celebrating in style! Today’s sweet cherry and citrus Jubilee precut will give you something to celebrate this summer! Jubilee 2.5" Strips contains 40 2.5" x 44" strips of fabric. Some prints are duplicated. 100% cotton. This line from Henry Glass Fabrics is a darling fruit and flowers collection with vintage charm. You'll find cherries, lemons, flowers, and plaids in sunny yellow, and soft green and blue.
