We know that bamboo is kind of crazy because it grows so fast, is so great for the environment, and works for so many cool applications, but I HAVE to tell you about the beautiful, amazing fact I just learned about bamboo.
Most plants flower every year, but bamboo flowers on an unexpected schedule anywhere between three and 150 years apart. The event can be so rare that in Persian there is a saying that goes: “When the bamboo flowers,” and it means basically “when pigs fly,” or “ain’t never gonna happen.”
Now that is pretty great, but it’s not the fact that’s got me all in a tizzy. Here’s the part that blows my mind: whenever a species of bamboo finally DOES flower, whether it’s been 3 years or 30 years, or 150 years since the last time, ALL the bamboo of that species flowers too, all at the same time, all over the WORLD, regardless of their location or climate!
How do they know their brothers and sisters around the globe are flowering at the same time? I don’t understand it, but I absolutely love it! It reminds me of characters in a movie who make a plan to look up at the moon at the same time, so they can be together even when they’re apart.
Of course, another of bamboo’s fabulous qualities is that it can be made into a soft, breathable, and environmentally friendly quilt batting!
It's soft. It's sustainable. It's 100% bamboo! Nature's Best 100% Bamboo Batting is the natural batting choice for breathable, lightweight, year-round comfort. Bamboo batting drapes like silk, so your quilts will look and feel fantastic. And you can feel good about using batting made from natural and sustainable bamboo. Great for machine or hand quilting.
