10 Scrappy Christmas Quilting Projects You Can Start in July

Did you know that we're more than halfway to Christmas? 'Tis the season to start your holiday crafting! And if you're a collector of holiday fabrics with tons of scrappy leftovers, look no further for inspiration. Today we're sharing 10 scrappy, happy Christmas quilting projects that you can start right now — because when it comes to holiday sewing, July is the new December!

Quick Scrappy Gifts to Sew for the Holidays

In need of a few special items to use as stocking stuffers? A few years ago, Misty filmed a tutorial of 9 Quick and Easy Last Minute Gifts you can sew and quilt.

These projects are all a great way to use up your favorite scraps. From quick and easy Key Fobs (which can be made in as few as three 5" squares) to Zippered Pouches made in scrappy patchwork or reusing old candy bags, you're sure to use up some of your stash AND delight your gift recipients!

Want to make something a little bigger and quiltier? Try our Cozy Cups Mini Quilt & Mug Rugs. The Mini Quilt is great for adding a bit of holiday decor to any room, and the mug rugs are perfect for a little holiday nosh (and so giftable!)

Need a hostess gift or a beautiful way to attend a potluck? Try Misty's Casserole Carrier and Hot Pads and carry food in style. She used a charm pack but you could use any leftover holiday fabric you have in your stash. Mix and match and make your own masterpiece.

Scrappy Christmas Decor Projects

If you love adding quilted touches to your holiday decor, we've got you covered! Misty's Simple HST Stockings make any mantlepiece gorgeous and ready for Santa's arrival. Tailor your fabric choices to each member of your family or go scrap happy for the perfect matched/mis-matched set!

Jenny's Adorable Tree Skirt is made with charm squares, but could easily be made scrappy and give the tree a patchwork look and feel. Go traditional in reds and greens, add in some pinks and teals to go a little retro, or pick your favorite collection to get started.

English Paper Piecing lends itself well to scrappy projects since you'll just need small amounts of fabric to create your shapes. Misty's EPP Ornaments can be made in many shapes and fabrics, and make fun additions to the tree! If you're wanting to add some cozy comfort to the house, try the Frosted Blooms EPP Pillow. It's a few more pieces, but could still be made scrappy with leftovers from another project!

Scrappy Christmas Quilts to Start Now

If you LOVE snuggling up in a cozy Christmas quilt or adding one to every bed in the house, then these project ideas are for you. You'll have to have lots of scraps in the stash, but with a bit of background and accent fabric, these can all be made delightfully scrappy!

Misty's Winter Pines is full of quiet elegance and originally calls for layer cake squares, but you'll only need 18 of them. So if your scrap bins are overflowing, this is the perfect project for using your favorites! Add some white or another neutral and you're all set.

Jenny's Sn-Ugly Sweater Quilt takes the ugly Christmas sweater to new levels. With the Missouri Star Sn-Ugly Sweater template, and the equivalent of layer cake squares, you can put this quilt together in no time. And the busier and more chaotic the individual prints are, the more fun this scrappy project is! Bonus: use the smaller template and charm pack squares to make a mini quilt that's just as fun.

In a similar vein, check out the Fam Jams Quilt tutorial. Misty is joined by Jen Belknap of The Smitten Chicken to put together blocks of pajama pants. Again, the more variety the better and you can even work in some of that beloved Christmas flannel!
