“Customer service was wonderful”

You said it

The most common theme in August’s five-star reviews wasn’t a fabric or pattern at all—it was a real person! Someone in Hamilton, Missouri, who answered the phone, replied to an email, or pushed a package through faster than necessary, making every maker feel properly looked after.

“Inspiring magazine with great service”

Customer service was wonderful. They responded promptly and my magazine arrived. I am very happy with their quick help. I enjoyed seeing new products and the pictures of quilts readers submitted. It is fun to see finished quilts, and it is inspiring me to finish mine. I am in a finish things mode so I’m not starting anything new. I received the Christmas box and loved the embroidery tin with the perle cotton thread.

“Beautiful quilt for a special gift”

I finished a kit my mom purchased from MSQC. The lovely person I talked to heard my story and was going to try to expedite the process, and she did! My mom was thrilled, she said she remembered making it, but in all she has been through, she didn't know where it had gone. The little quilt was finished beautifully, and now she has to decide which new GREAT grandchild to give it to. Thank you so much!

“Perfect for seasonal projects”

Shipping from Hamilton has improved enormously. Everything is coming more quickly. I loved all the prints and will use all in my projects. I only do small 4" hearts to put a little love out into the world. Each heart usually gets half and half plus the back, so basically 3 pieces each, but the front gets used twice. I started to use up inherited button boxes and am running low. They are my therapy and might bring joy to some folk. I use it all year long and generally change seasonally.

“Perfect fabric for my next project”

The fabric came quickly and was even nicer than the picture. I’ve used monochromatic fabric in the past and will be perfect for the pattern. I haven't used the fabric or the pattern yet, but they will be my next project.

“Great blades for various fabrics”

The rotary replacement blades arrived in good time. They were packaged as ordered. The sale price and free shipping make it a great deal! Cutting out, cutting out, cutting out! It depends on the fabric.

Great Prices Without Skimping on Quality

Quality and price

There’s no fooling a seasoned maker—a thin, poor-quality cotton stands out a mile away before you even make the first cut. That’s why our favorite customer feedback always points to the same combination: rich, substantial fabric that feels wonderful in hand, paired with a price that lets you quilt to your heart's content.

“Beautiful quality fabric at great prices”

I love my snowflakes white on white. I use white in most of my quilts, so I keep a ton on hand to go with the quilt fabric. Beautiful quality fabric for great prices and bundle shipping. It’s a win win situation. Love MSQ♥️.

“Great batting for quilting”

I've just switched to this batting and it's great to use. I make them to sell! It’s easy to quilt with and I don’t have high and low spots. The pricing and shipping costs made me switch. I use it for making quilts. 20.

“Love this batting for hand quilting”

I am a hand quilter, and I do big stitch quilting. I always bought the cheap polyester batting from Jo-Anns because I was afraid the other would be too hard to hand quilt. I was wrong! This batting quilts easy, and I find that my top doesn't slip on the batting like the polyester stuff does. I love it! I'm still quilting, and it seems to lay really nice. Now that I've tried MSQC batting, I can get everything for a quilt from start to finish from Missouri Star. I talk about Missouri Star to everyone I know! Unfortunately, none of them are quilters. But, while standing in line to vote yesterday, a young woman saw my MSQC t-shirt and said her mom was a quilter and a big fan!!

Years of Inspiration

BLOCK & Jenny

So many of our community didn't discover us through an ad—they found Jenny on YouTube, or a friend passed along an issue of Block Magazine. In August, reviewers kept describing Missouri Star as something they've proudly been part of for over a decade.

“Great resource for quilting”

I use the patterns in the BLOCK books in conjunction with the YouTube videos Jenny has online. I started as an experienced seamstress in apparel but I'm not so confident about HST and other quilt applications. I had only done log cabin quilts prior to Jenny's videos and BLOCK books. I use it for hexi stained glass.

“Always inspiring and enjoyable”

I always enjoy receiving my new issues. This is the only subscription that I have now, and I have enjoyed them all over the past 12 years! I love the layout, the graphics, the stories, and inspiration. I have enjoyed following Jenny's journey throughout the years and watching her daughters evolve in the business.

“Great patterns and tutorials”

I enjoy the patterns. I love that I can access the tutorials online. I just watch the tutorial first to get the big picture. I appreciate no ads. The interviews with designers are great. I miss the serial stories. I have saved all my past issues for years. They're a great resource for my sewing studio!

The reviews that aren't about us at all

The best part

The feedback that means the most to us is rarely just about a bolt of cotton. It’s the story of a birthday quilt made for a beloved granddaughter, a 13-member block exchange brought to life, or the proud moment a 22-year-old finishes their very first top. Knowing our fabric plays a small part in those moments makes opening the review inbox every morning the highlight of our day.

“Patriotic Quilt Blocks”

Our little 13 member quilt group each made 13 of the same patriotic quilt block and then we each exchanged one with each of the members. We each made a quilt from those blocks. Here is mine. I bought it for the exchange as a remembrance of our project. They will feel the camaraderie of sharing our quilts with each other every time they use the case.

“Perfect for my grandson's quilt”

This batting was very easy to work with and flattened out extremely well. I'm using it for a quilt for my grandson's fourth birthday. The quilt looked wonderful at completion. The whole family uses it on Friday movie nights at home. So far, so good.

“Perfect fit for my quilt projects”

I have a quilt tutorial from Donna Jorden, and this fabric collection seemed to be a perfect fit for her speedy jellyroll quilt. I have so many projects planned, but I am slow due to numb hands after chemo treatments. The precuts are a big help in dealing with the aftereffects of my treatment. I will send you a photo of the finished project - it may be a while.

What If Something Goes Wrong?

It happens, and our customer reviews are the best proof of how we handle it. When an order goes astray or a magazine doesn't arrive, makers write in to say a real person in Hamilton sorted it out—usually the same day, and often much faster than expected. In fact, the most common frustration mentioned isn't a faulty product at all, but a favorite shade or precut selling through before they could place their order.

A tip from the notions wall: New here? Start with a precut and a Jenny tutorial. A charm pack or jelly roll takes the cutting out of your first quilt, and every pattern we sell has a free video walking you through it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Missouri Star reviews real?

Yes, and they're tied to orders. The review request goes out after your package ships, so reviewers are verified buyers who have had the product in hand. We don't offer discounts in exchange for reviews, and we don't delete the negative ones — which is why you'll find complaints on our product pages.

Where is Missouri Star Quilt Company located?

Hamilton, Missouri — a small town in northwest Missouri where the shops, the warehouse, and the machine quilting service all operate. Orders ship from Hamilton, which is why reviewers mention it by name.

How does Missouri Star handle a problem with an order?

You reach a person in Hamilton. August's reviews are the honest answer: orders expedited to hit a gift deadline, replacement magazines sent out, and questions answered before anyone had to ask twice.

What is BLOCK Magazine?

Missouri Star's own quilting magazine — patterns, quilt history, designer interviews, and reader-submitted quilts, with no advertising. Available as a single issue or an annual subscription, and in August 2026, readers wrote about it more than any product in the shop.

Who is Jenny Doan?

Missouri Star's co-founder and the voice of the free quilting tutorials that have run on YouTube since 2008. Many reviewers mention watching a tutorial before or while making their project — the tutorials stay free, and they're how most quilters found Hamilton in the first place.

How can I leave a review?

Use the link on your order page or in your post-delivery email. Reviews happen as a short guided chat rather than a form, so most take under two minutes, and you can attach photos of the finished project.
