The Longest Quilt in the World
…and the biggest, if you're actually sewing it all together.

Here is a bad idea that turned out to be a great one: sew three blocks onto the same quilt every single day, on camera, and do not stop until a million quilters have subscribed to the channel. No end date. No idea how long it would take. Just a quilt that gets longer every morning.
We started it on December 30, 2025 in the Missouri Star studio in Hamilton, Missouri. We finished it on May 4, 2026. In between, that quilt went down Main Street, into every one of our shops, out to the retreat center, to a wedding, to the lake, and through roughly 375 blocks of piecing. This post is the whole thing, day by day, in one place — because a lot of you came in on Day 60 and have been asking what happened before that.
What we actually did
- ➤ Three blocks a day, one quilt. Not three blocks a day into a pile — three blocks a day added onto the same growing top. That is why it got long instead of getting big. Day 1 is 3 blocks. Day 125 is a quilt you cannot hold up in one shot without walking backwards.
- ➤ We filmed it wherever it went. Once the quilt outgrew a table it became a tour guide. It got carried through the Main Shop, the Modern Shop, Santa's Sewing Shop, Kids & Baby, Backing & Trims, Accessories & Such, the Machine Quilting department, the retreat center, the Missouri Quilt Museum, and half the businesses in downtown Hamilton.
- ➤ Quilt Reveal days became the ritual. Roughly every sixth day was a full unroll — the whole top stretched out so you could see the growth. Those consistently pulled the biggest audiences of the run (Day 44, Day 70, Day 102, Day 112 all cleared 10K views).
- ➤ The finish was genuinely close. Day 125 was filmed at 999,974 subscribers. Twenty-six people. The celebration video went up the next day, and we sent boxes of goodies to 15 subscribers at random as our way of saying thank you.
How long is it, really?
The honest answer: we have never laid a tape measure end to end on it. What we can tell you is what we saw. On Day 88 we stretched it out and it ran the length of a grocery store aisle — and then we sewed on it for 37 more days. A block strip that gains three blocks every morning does not creep, it sprints.
💡 Pro Tip: If you want to try this at home on a saner scale: pick one block, one fabric pull, and a fixed number of blocks per day, and sew it onto the previous day's work instead of stacking blocks in a bin. The forced daily join is what keeps it from turning into a UFO. Ten minutes a day for a month is a lap quilt.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the longest quilt in the world?
We are not filing paperwork with Guinness. The certified record for the largest quilt belongs to a 1988 project from Antler, North Dakota, which measured 85 feet by 134 feet and weighed 800 pounds. Ours is a different shape entirely — long and narrow rather than field-sized. It is, however, easily the longest quilt anybody in Hamilton has made three blocks at a time on camera.
What blocks did you use?
The run is a mix — simple squares and strip-pieced blocks that could be cut, sewn and joined inside a single short. That was the whole design constraint: if it could not be done in a few minutes on camera, it did not go in the quilt.
Can I get the pattern?
There is no single pattern — it grew day by day. If you want to sew along with the same idea, pick any beginner block from our free tutorials and add three a day to a growing strip.
