Latifah Saafir is the creative engine of Latifah Saafir Studios–a quilt pattern, sewing pattern, and sewing product company. Latifah combines her training as an engineer and her lifelong love of sewing to produce modern quilting patterns that are graphically bold. Her engineering background shines in designs by Latifah Saafir because of the attention to innovative construction techniques.

Latifah is the inventor of The Clammy Template–sometimes called The Clammy Ruler–and has designed many ingenious quilt patterns based on The Clammy. Watch the video of Latifah introducing The Clammy below to learn about all the wonderful things you can do with it!

Missouri Star carries the Latifah Saafir patterns mentioned in the video, including The Clammy Basics 1, 2, 3, and 4. This series of modern quilt patterns moves from a full circle in Pattern 1, to a half circle, quarter circle, then an orange peel in Pattern 4. In addition to designing quilt patterns for accomplished sewists, Latifah is dedicated to developing kids’ interest in sewing. To that end, she created a branch of Latifah Saafir Studios called Quilt Cadets. Latifah Saafir designs patterns for kids ages 8-12 with clear directions and plenty of illustrations to help young sewists successfully complete projects with minimal assistance. Latifah Saafir is the co-founder of both the Los Angeles Modern Quilt Guild and the worldwide Modern Quilt Guild. She is a frequently requested teacher at guilds far and wide.
