You may be surprised to learn that Riley Blake Designs isn’t named after just one person, it’s actually named after two people - Bret Cloward’s father, Blake, and his daughter, Riley. Bret grew up immersed in the family fabric business and learned everything he knew from his father. For more than 30 years, his family had been running a chain of successful fabric shops all along the Wasatch Front in Utah and they also owned Christensen Wholesale, a fabric business that had been around for over 80 years. You might say that fabric runs in their family.
When Bret’s father passed away, he took over the family business, along with a few other family members, and they began making their own branded flannels under the name Alpine Fabrics. But that was just the beginning. Soon enough, they branched out into beautiful quilting cottons, thanks to Bret’s wife Cindy, who wanted to bring colorful, fresh fabrics onto the market.
