Description:

A Basket Full of Posies is a 100-inch-square medallion quilt by George and Linda Wheeler of Mulberry Manor Designs. Once Upon a Storybook prints and 1930’s Solids surround a pieced center basket with appliqued flowers and leaves. Dresden plates, nine-patch corners and a varied pieced block border build outward from the center. Pinwheel units and an outer turquoise border finish the composition, with flower templates supplied alongside options for choosing your own appliqued blossoms.

  1. Cut and label the pieces for the center basket, then piece its handles, base and surrounding triangles into the medallion. Delay diagonal cuts until needed to protect the bias edges.
  2. Piece the Dresden plates and applique their centers. Position the plates and the flower-and-leaf appliques on the medallion, using the supplied templates or your chosen flower shapes.
  3. Add the nine-patch corner units and surrounding border. Make the Dresden corner blocks and the sixteen pieced border blocks, then join them with the specified sashing around the medallion.
  4. Piece the pinwheels and add the pinwheel borders followed by the turquoise outer border. Quilt as desired and bind with the specified solid fabric.
