Description:

Batty Mantle is a 60-by-18-inch decorative project designed by LJ Simon with Scaredy Cats fabrics by Terri Degenkolb. Ten black bat shapes form a shaped border around the pumpkin-colored center. The beginner-level design uses fusible materials to attach the bats and join the front and back, followed by zigzag stitching around the shapes. The backing can use the orange fabric already specified, or additional black fabric may be chosen to match the bat border.

Batty Mantle Free Pattern by LJ Simon quilt pattern summary

  1. Print and assemble the bat template at the specified scale. Trace ten bats onto the fusible backing, fuse them to the black fabric, and cut the shapes on their outlines.
  2. Arrange and fuse the bats around the top rectangle. Place the backing, double-sided fusible interlining and top together in the stated order and fuse the layers.
  3. Secure each bat with a tight zigzag stitch. Carefully cut away the fabric outside the bat edges without cutting the stitching, then press the finished project flat.
