Uh oh, a spool is unraveling! Refresh and try again.
Description:

Butterfly Peekaboo cuts butterfly colorwash yardage into four strips and rejoins them with contrasting sashing, keeping the printed design in sequence. Sue Penn designed this advanced-beginner quilt with Wings of Wonder fabrics. Eleven pinwheel blocks frame two sides of the center, while strip-pieced segments build another colorful border around it. Narrow and wide print borders complete the rectangle. The quilt finishes at 44 by 56 inches with six-inch pinwheel blocks and coordinating Splatters binding.

Butterfly Peekaboo Free Quilt Pattern by Sue Penn quilt pattern summary

  1. Fussy cut and number the butterfly-print strips in sequence. Add the narrow sashing to each strip, join the strips and attach the lower framing piece.
  2. Make the half-square-triangle units and trim them square. Sew them into eleven pinwheel blocks, then join the blocks into the side and bottom groups.
  3. Strip piece the four-color border segments. Add the pinwheel groups, narrow inner borders, pieced borders and wide outer borders in the illustrated order.
  4. Join the binding, layer and quilt, and trim the extra layers. Attach the binding with mitered corners and hand stitch it to the back.
