Carpenter’s Square Free Quilt Pattern by Lucy A. Fazely
Carpenter’s Square places a large diamond-pieced star inside a border of diagonal squares, with smaller blocks at the corners. Lucy A. Fazely designed the intermediate quilt with Stamped fabrics by Seth Apter. Set-in seams connect the diamonds, squares and triangles, while the cutting directions keep the cursive prints right-reading. The finished quilt measures 73 inches square, with a 48-inch center and ten-inch corner blocks enclosed by narrow inner and outer borders.

Carpenter’s Square Free Quilt Pattern by Lucy A. Fazely quilt pattern summary
- Print and join the diamond templates at actual size, check the scale square, and cut the diamonds and reversed diamonds with their grainlines and printed text correctly oriented.
- Sew the diamond pairs from the marked seam intersections. Use set-in seams to add the squares and triangles, then assemble the star center and its corner units.
- Piece the corner blocks and diagonal-square borders. Add the narrow inner frame, the pieced borders with their corner blocks, and the outer border.
- Join the binding strips, then layer and quilt. Trim the extra layers, attach the binding with mitered corners, and hand stitch it to the back.
