Uh oh, a spool is unraveling! Refresh and try again.
Description:

Continental Commander centers a George Washington silhouette inside two oval appliques, surrounded by small stars. Jill Reid’s 36-by-40-inch design combines this medallion with striped borders and square-in-a-square blocks from the Valley Forge collection by Nancy Gere. Additional stars decorate selected border blocks, and a scrappy outer border frames the whole quilt. The pattern provides actual-size applique templates and allows the applique method of your choice.

Continental Commander Free Quilt Pattern by Jill Reid quilt pattern summary

  1. Use the templates to prepare the silhouette, ovals and stars. Applique the silhouette to the ovals, center the medallion on the background rectangle and arrange the surrounding stars.
  2. Join the blue and gold strips for the first border and make its square-in-a-square corner blocks. Add star appliques to these blocks and attach the border sections.
  3. Prepare the burgundy-and-brown strip sections and the square-in-a-square blocks for the second border. Add stars to the specified blocks and assemble the border around the quilt.
  4. Piece the scrappy square-in-a-square blocks and starred corners for the outer border, maintaining the tan and brown triangle orientation. Attach the border, then layer, quilt, bind and label.
