Cottage Windows Free Quilt Pattern by Stacey Day
Cottage Windows alternates two rectangular block designs built around fussy-cut motifs from Silent Night by Cori Dantini. Stacey Day designed the advanced-beginner quilt with half-square triangles, strip-pieced units and cornered picture centers. Sixteen blocks are arranged in four rows with sashing between them, and the outer border features carefully aligned pairs of birds. The finished quilt measures seventy by seventy-eight inches, with each block finishing at twelve by fourteen inches.

Cottage Windows Free Quilt Pattern by Stacey Day quilt pattern summary
- Fussy cut the picture rectangles and bird-print border strips. Cut and label the remaining squares, triangles, sashing and binding, keeping the specified lengthwise-grain sashing separate.
- Make the half-square triangles and strip sets, then cut the strip sets into their component units. Add corner squares to the larger picture rectangles.
- Assemble eight blocks of each design and arrange them in four rows with sashing. Join the rows and add the inner border and the bird-print outer border in the indicated direction.
- Join the binding strips, then layer and quilt. Trim the extra layers, attach the binding and hand stitch it to the back.
