Courting Steps 2.0 Free Quilt Pattern by Denyse Schmidt
Courting Steps 2.0 is a beginner quilt designed by Denyse Schmidt with the Gleaned collection. Nine Courthouse Step blocks form a square quilt measuring 68.25 by 68.25 inches. Each block builds outward from a small center square through twelve layers of squares and strips, with a different fabric arrangement in each colorway. The pattern provides placement diagrams for the featured version and also explains how to work one block at a time when choosing your own color combinations.

Courting Steps 2.0 Free Quilt Pattern by Denyse Schmidt quilt pattern summary
- Cut the squares and strips listed for the nine block colorways. If choosing your own colorways, cut and complete one block at a time using the general block guide.
- Build each Courthouse Step block around its center square, adding the twelve layers in the illustrated order. Press outward after each layer and pin the longer outer strips to prevent stretching or shifting.
- Arrange the nine blocks in a three-by-three grid in numerical order, checking their orientation. Sew horizontal rows, alternate seam-pressing direction between rows, then join the rows.
- Layer the top with batting and backing, baste, and quilt as desired. Bind with the fabric P strips.
