Crosshatch Free Quilt Pattern by Billy Reue
Crosshatch combines cornered print squares with small background squares and center rectangles in thirty-six blocks. The blocks form six rows, surrounded by a narrow border and a separate binding. Billy Reue designed the quilt with his Kaleidoscope collection, using Dotty in Fog alongside the assorted prints. This advanced-beginner project finishes at 64 inches square, with ten-inch finished blocks and a labeled layout showing the fabric combinations throughout the quilt.

- Cut and label the print squares, background squares and center rectangles. Mark diagonal lines on the small background squares before beginning the corner units.
- Sew the marked squares across opposite corners of the larger print squares, trim and press. Arrange the cornered units with the remaining squares and rectangles to make thirty-six blocks.
- Arrange the blocks in six rows of six, following the fabric layout. Join the rows and add the narrow border around the center.
- Join the binding strips and prepare the backing. Layer, baste and quilt the top, then trim the layers and complete the binding by hand or machine.
