Description:

Curiosity pairs sixteen pieced cat blocks with star cornerstones and detailed sashing. Foundation-pieced sections form the cats’ bodies, ears, and surrounding pieces, while curved seams join the arcs within each block. The intermediate design also includes flying-geese units for the stars and separately pieced horizontal and vertical sashing. Finished at 98 inches square, the quilt combines four rows of cat blocks with a border around the complete arrangement.

Curiosity Free Quilt Pattern by Stacey Day quilt pattern summary

  1. Print and check the foundations and templates, joining the large template sections as directed. Cut the fabrics, including the fussy-cut mice and optional cat motifs.
  2. Foundation-piece the cat components, join the arcs with curved seams, and assemble the sixteen cat blocks. Keep each block’s solid and accent fabrics grouped together.
  3. Piece the horizontal and vertical sashing, then make flying-geese units for the star cornerstones. Join the star blocks and horizontal units into the sashing rows.
  4. Arrange the cat blocks in four rows with vertical sashing between them. Join the block rows and sashing rows, then add the outer borders around the center.
  5. Join the bias binding strips, layer the top with batting and backing, and baste. Quilt, trim the excess layers, and finish the quilt with binding.
