Kante Copie Free Quilt Pattern by Odile Bailloeul
Kante Copie builds its center by overlapping fabric patches directly on the batting and backing, working inward from the outside edge. Folded patch edges are secured with concentric lines of quilting, using either hand stitching or a walking foot. Odile Bailloeul designed this intermediate quilt with Festival prints and Tula Pink Solids. The finished project measures 59 1/2 by 74 1/2 inches, with a separate two-part border joined at mitered corners around the Kawandi-inspired center.

Kante Copie Free Quilt Pattern by Odile Bailloeul quilt pattern summary
- Cut the sample patch sizes or prepare the alternate scrap arrangement described in the instructions. Piece the backing, layer it with batting and mark the center’s outer guidelines.
- Start at the lower-right corner and overlap the first patches along the outside guideline. Fold the upper patch edges under and quilt through the layers to secure them.
- Add further rounds of patches and closely spaced quilting, working toward the middle until the center is covered. Follow the placement diagrams for the sample arrangement.
- Join the inner and outer border strips, attach them around the quilted center and hand sew the mitered corners. Finish the border area and bind the quilt.
