Beautiful but Beware the Edges

I bought this same pattern except in the form of a 5 in quilt square. However, every edge was not cut straight and cut serrated in a bunch of tiny triangles. I had to cut every edge again and lost 1/8 inch in each dimension so it was under 5. Very frustrating.
