Description:

Library of Flowers turns printed letters, floral motifs and narrow fabric spines into a bookshelf quilt. Sixteen blocks combine foundation-pieced tilted books with straight-pieced covers and upright spines. Arranged in four rows, the lettered covers spell LOVE TO READ, while floral borders frame the collection. The advanced-beginner project finishes at 64 inches square and includes a printable foundation, individual block diagrams and guidance for keeping directional prints upright and matching the border motifs.

Library of Flowers Free Quilt Pattern by FreeSpirit Fabrics quilt pattern summary

  1. Print and check the tilted-book foundation at full size, then prepare sixteen copies. Fussy cut the letters and featured motifs, keeping directional strips labeled.
  2. Foundation piece the tilted books in numerical order and trim the units. Sew the framed front covers and the three different spine units separately.
  3. Combine the specified covers, spines and tilted books into sixteen blocks, adding the lower shelf strip to each. Arrange four rows so the letters spell LOVE TO READ.
  4. Join the rows and attach the floral borders with their corner squares, following the motif directions. Layer, quilt and finish with the bias-cut binding.
