Mushroom Medley Free Quilt Pattern by Stacey Day
Mushroom Medley forms twenty-five mushroom blocks from shaped print caps, narrow undersides and separate stems. Stacey Day designed this advanced-beginner quilt with Forage fabrics by Martha Negley. Strip-pieced sashing and small cornerstones separate the blocks, which rotate through seven diagonal rows. Side and corner setting triangles complete the square edges. The quilt measures 65 inches square with nine-inch finished blocks, using a solid Shire background and a coordinating Fungi print for its binding.

- Cut the print rectangles, background squares, stem pieces and setting triangles. Mark the diagonal lines on the small background squares for the mushroom caps and undersides.
- Corner piece the caps and undersides, then sew the stem strips between background squares. Join one of each unit to make twenty-five mushroom blocks.
- Strip piece the sashing and join it with cornerstones into the illustrated sashing rows. Arrange the mushroom blocks in seven diagonal rows with alternating orientations and setting triangles.
- Join the rows, prepare the binding and layer the quilt. Quilt, trim the extra batting and backing, then attach and hand finish the binding.
