Description:

Nap Time in the Bunk House by Sue Pickering is a 54 by 81 inch bunk-bed quilt made with the Paperdoll Cowboy collection. Its traditional Boston Commons setting is built from strip-pieced diagonal rows. Side borders carry lined storage pockets for the paper dolls, horses and accessories, while a pieced footer allows the bunk-bed posts to show. Fussy-cut cowboy and cowgirl motifs appear in the pockets and footer.

Nap Time in the Bunk House Free Quilt Pattern by Sue Pickering quilt pattern summary

  1. Cut the strips and pocket pieces, then fussy-cut the cowboy and cowgirl motifs. Fuse the designated accessories and reinforce the dolls and horses with interfacing.
  2. Sew the numbered fabric strips into sets and crosscut them into segments. Build the diagonal rows, adding the end squares before joining the rows and trimming the edges.
  3. Measure the center and attach the long side borders. Piece the footer with its fussy-cut motif, then layer the top, batting and backing and quilt.
  4. Piece and line the pocket strips, turn and press them, and place them on the quilted side borders. Stitch the pocket divisions and lower edges, then bind the quilt.
