Rag Free Quilt Pattern by Lucy A. Fazely

Uh oh, a spool is unraveling! Refresh and try again.
Description:

Rag combines quarter-square-triangle blocks with exposed seam allowances that are clipped and washed to form ragged edges. Lucy A. Fazely designed this advanced-beginner quilt using Stamped fabrics by Seth Apter, a half-yard cut pack and additional prints. Twenty layered blocks are arranged in five rows of four, with an X stitched through each block before assembly. The quilt finishes at 56 by 70 inches, and perimeter stitching replaces conventional binding around the outside edge.

Rag Free Quilt Pattern by Lucy A. Fazely quilt pattern summary

  1. Cut and mark the squares, then sew and recut the paired triangle units to make the quarter-square-triangle blocks. Trim each completed block to the stated size.
  2. Layer each block with its batting square and backing square. Topstitch a large X through the layers near the pieced seam lines.
  3. Arrange the blocks in five rows of four. Sew the blocks and rows wrong sides together with the specified wide seams, then topstitch around the quilt perimeter.
  4. Clip the exposed seam allowances and outer edges as directed. Machine wash and dry the quilt to develop the ragged finish, cleaning the dryer lint filter several times during the cycle.
