Royal Critters is a 43-inch-square quilt designed by Bethany Fuller using Little Menagerie fabrics by Melanie Hurlston of Melly & Me. Four appliqued center blocks feature a bee, elephant, owl and monkey, with templates supplied for each character. Twelve hourglass blocks surround the center and receive red corner triangles. Blue sashing, cornerstones and printed borders complete the arrangement, while the applique instructions let you use your preferred method for the character blocks.

- Use the character templates and your preferred applique method to make four center blocks. Trim the completed applique blocks to the stated unfinished size.
- Piece twelve hourglass blocks from the print squares. Add red triangles to the corners of the completed blocks using the marked-diagonal method.
- Assemble the applique and hourglass blocks with sashing, cornerstones and borders according to the layout. Quilt and bind the finished top.
