Description:

Rustling Leaves is an intermediate quilt designed by Wendy Sheppard featuring Wild Kingdom fabrics with Terrain 2.0 and Palette accents. The quilt finishes at 82.5 by 91.5 inches and combines three block constructions based on half-square triangles and fabric squares. Nine rows of eight blocks are separated by narrow sashing, with small contrasting squares in selected horizontal strips. Two borders frame the arrangement. The detailed layout identifies block placement and orientation across the quilt top.

Rustling Leaves Free Quilt Pattern by Wendy Sheppard quilt pattern summary

  1. Cut the fabrics in the separate Block One, Block Two, Block Three, sashing and border groups. Label the different square and strip sizes before assembly.
  2. Make the half-square triangles by sewing on both sides of marked diagonals, cutting apart and trimming to the stated sizes. Assemble the three block designs, following each diagram for unit rotation and fabric placement.
  3. Piece the horizontal sashing strips with their specified contrasting squares. Join eight blocks with short sashing into each of nine rows, then join the rows with the prepared sashing strips.
  4. Add the A inner border followed by the O outer border, attaching side strips before top and bottom strips. Layer, baste and quilt as desired, then bind with J strips.
