Storybook Playtime combines pieced hexagon rings with contrasting centers appliqued over their openings. Debby Kratovil’s design uses Storybook prints in blue, yellow and red, with floral setting triangles and a solid periwinkle inner border. Twelve blocks form three columns and four rows, surrounded by a border of print rectangles. The finished quilt measures 43½ by 47½ inches, and the pattern includes templates for the centers, ring pieces and setting shapes.

- Transfer the templates and cut the hexagon centers, half-hexagon ring pieces and setting shapes. Fuse interfacing to the center fabrics before cutting them with template A.
- Piece six half hexagons into each ring. Center and zigzag-applique the prepared hexagon over the opening, then add the floral setting triangles and join the blocks into rows.
- Add the solid inner border and piece the outer border from print rectangles. Layer with batting and backing, quilt, and finish with the folded periwinkle binding.
