Virtually no instructions or ideas

It must not be a book for beginners. There are absolutely no instructions or even a forward to get a sense of what the author intended for providing the patterns. I have no idea how to transfer, etc. Patterns are straight line, as you might guess, however. There are no photos to see how they look on a finished piece. Waste of my money, personally.
