Twist and Twirl Free Quilt Pattern by John Kubiniec
Twist and Twirl uses the Swirl collection by Whistler Studios in a quilt measuring 74½ inches square. John Kubiniec's design combines template-cut colored sections with quarter circles and brown background pieces. Four assembled units form each block, and an appliquéd circle covers its center opening. The blocks are arranged with brown sashing and colored cornerstones. The design is intended to have a scrappy feel, with the individual fabric placements chosen on a design wall.

- Prepare and check the templates against their one-inch squares. Cut the colored sections, quarter circles, background pieces, sashing, borders, and appliqué circles, adding appliqué seam allowance when needed.
- Sew the three colored sections together, attach the quarter circle, and join the unit to the brown background. Repeat for the other units in each block.
- Join four units around the block's center opening and appliqué a circle over it. Repeat with the red and yellow-orange quarter-circle arrangements.
- Arrange the blocks with sashing and colored cornerstones, then sew the rows together. Attach the borders, layer and quilt, and finish with brown binding.
