Uh oh, a spool is unraveling! Refresh and try again.
Description:

Washington’s Legacy places a fussy-cut portrait of George Washington at the center of a sequence of pieced frames. Karen Witt’s beginner-level design features Nancy Gere’s Old Glory IV collection and finishes at 60 inches square. The center portrait is appliqued onto a striped background before red triangles surround it. Rectangles, square-in-a-square blocks and half-square triangles build the surrounding rows, with fussy-cut flag squares positioned to preserve their direction.

Washington's Legacy Free Quilt Pattern by Karen Witt quilt pattern summary

  1. Fussy-cut the portrait and applique it to the striped center square using your chosen method. Add the red setting triangles and trim the center to the specified measurement.
  2. Piece and attach the first two surrounding rows from print rectangles, triangular center units and corner squares. Check the intermediate center measurements as directed before continuing.
  3. Make the half-square triangle corners and attach the third frame. Piece the square-in-a-square units and combine them with the rectangles and corner units for the fourth row.
  4. Make the final half-square triangle units and fussy-cut the flag squares. Arrange these pieces around the center according to the layout, keeping each directional flag correctly oriented.
