What a Nest Free Quilt Pattern by Stacey Day
What a Nest combines half-square-triangle blocks with framed triangular units and a separate row of fussy-cut bird motifs. Stacey Day designed the advanced-beginner quilt with What the Birds said… fabrics by Cori Dantini. Full and half blocks create the alternating row arrangements, while the bottom blocks keep their printed motifs upright. The quilt finishes at 72 by 81 inches, with 12 3/4-inch finished blocks and a binding cut from the coordinating Flight Pattern print.

What a Nest Free Quilt Pattern by Stacey Day quilt pattern summary
- Cut and label the triangles and framing rectangles. Fussy cut the bird-print squares and triangles, then piece the three groups of framed triangular units.
- Make the half-square triangles and join them into the full blocks and mirrored half blocks. Piece the bottom blocks with their motifs right side up.
- Combine the blocks and triangular units into the five numbered rows. Join the rows in order, matching their seams and pressing the row joins open.
- Prepare the binding, then layer and quilt the top. Trim the extra layers, attach the binding and blind stitch it to the back.
