Solid Fabric for Quilting
Solid fabric is the quiet workhorse of a quilt. It's the background that makes a print sing, the sashing that frames every block, the binding that finishes the edge – and in a modern quilt, it can be the whole show. Our solids are cut by the yard, so you can buy exactly the yardage your pattern calls for, from a half yard of an accent color to a big stack of background fabric.

Choosing Solid Colors
A color wheel takes the guesswork out of picking solids. A few combinations that always work:
- Monochromatic – several values of one color, like light to dark purple.
- Complementary – two colors opposite each other on the wheel, like purple and yellow.
- Analogous – neighbors on the wheel, like red, orange and yellow.
- Triadic – three evenly spaced colors, like purple, red-orange and green.
- Spectrum – the whole rainbow.
Getting the Contrast Right
Value – how light or dark a color is – matters more than the color itself. If all your solids are medium value, the quilt will look flat. Lay your fabrics out, step back and squint, or snap a photo in black-and-white mode on your phone: if two fabrics blur together, swap one for something lighter or darker. Pure, saturated colors (especially yellow) jump forward, and warm colors dominate cool ones, so use them where you want the eye to land.
