10 Favorite Quilts and Sewing Projects for Fall

We’re giddy for chilly mornings; we dream of hearty soups. Our souls sing for crunchy leaves and all things pumpkin spice. The sun goes to bed earlier each night, and the sewing room seems to whisper, “Quilting season has arrived!”

We’ve gathered 10 favorite fall sewing projects, from quilts to table runners to cuddle-soft scarves. Take your pick, and let’s get started!

Fall Quilts

Fall is the coziest of seasons. Thick sweaters. Wool socks. Steaming mugs of spiced apple cider. Of course, this idyllic scene just isn’t complete without a few fall quilt patterns for fireside snuggles.

1. Pumpkin Spice Quilt

Nothing is as sweet n’ simple as a pumpkin quilt made with jelly roll strip sets and snowballed corners. These charming patchwork pumpkins are framed with multicolor pieced sashing, and they’ll spice up your decor from Halloween all the way to Thanksgiving.

2. Scattered Leaves Quilt

The Scattered Leaves quilt is warm and inviting with big half-square triangle maple leaves. Fall quilts are made for cuddling, and this beauty is a joy to sew with precut layer cake squares in rich, earthy colors.

3. Vertical Attic Window Panel Quilt

As Halloween draws near, we’re adding a touch of mystery to the classic Attic Window quilt. Easy pieced window panes frame a spooky scene from the Wicked Eve - Haunted House panel by Timeless Treasures. It’s a fun way to turn a vertical panel into a Halloween quilt or wall hanging.

4. Turkey Trot Thanksgiving Quilt

Orchestrating a full Thanksgiving dinner is no small feat, but Jenny’s Turkey Trot quilt is easy as pumpkin pie. This pretty Thanksgiving quilt pattern combines appliqué dresden turkey blocks with a variation of Irish Chain that we’ve dubbed Irish Change.

DIY Fall Decor

Nothing says “Happy Fall, Y’all!” like a sprinkling of DIY fall decor. Deck your harvest halls with fall sewing patterns designed for every wall and tabletop, and you’ll have the best dressed home on the block!

5. Fall Festival I & II Runner

Maple leaves and flying geese are a classic autumn duo. Gather the supplies listed on the pattern, and you’ll have enough fabric to make both versions of this pretty fall table runner.

6. Thankful Wall Hanging

Combine all your fall favorites - flying geese, pumpkins, fall leaves, and dresden turkeys - into one Thanksgiving wall hanging. This pattern finishes with a pretty “thankful” word block and adds a sweet touch to your harvest decor.

7. Double Square Star Table Runner

A two-sided runner is double the fun. This cute pattern has an eye-catching zig zag border with sharp angles, but no binding is needed. (Phew!) And since it’s reversible, you can use fall fabric on one side and Christmas on the other.

DIY Accessories for Fall

As autumn slowly tiptoes in, brisk mornings give way to sun-drenched afternoons. It truly is a slice of heaven—warm enough to explore the colors of the season, but cool enough to wear pretty layers. Remember, just a few DIY accessories will infuse your wardrobe with plenty of fresh, fall style.

8. Cuddle® Scarf

With a yard of Cuddle® + a handful of magnetic snaps, you can make SIX luxuriously soft scarfs. These pretty scarfs are such fun to sew, and they make the sweetest gifts. (Nervous about sewing with Cuddle®? Watch our free tutorial! Teresa is Shannon’s Cuddle® expert, and she has plenty of tips to share.)

9. Quarter Moon Pouch

Carry the harvest moon everywhere you go this fall. The Quarter Moon Bag is a quirky zippered pouch with eye-catching curves. Make it with clear vinyl or fun, seasonal fabric—and don’t forget the Fancy Zip decorative zipper. (Look for this pattern in BLOCK Volume 10 Issue 4.)

10. Anytime Topper

Cozy up with the Anytime Topper by Amy Barickman. This cute, cardigan-style top is a cinch to make—nothing but straight stitching. It’s stylish, flowy, and sooo comfortable. We’ve made the Anytime Topper in batiks, linen, and even a vintage lace tablecloth. But as the weather turns cold, we’re reaching for Luxe Cuddle®. It’s like wearing a blanket!

From pumpkins to sunflowers to golden piles of leaves, fall is a delight for the senses, and we welcome it with open, flannel-clad arms. Quilting season has arrived, and we are ready to sew.
