Quilting Product Description

Hello, Fall! In Volume 13, Issue 4 of BLOCK Magazine, we're leaning into deep, saturated colors that capture the mood of back-to-school season and Halloween. Grab a cup of pumpkin spice and settle in with the Grandmother Willow and 60 Degree Stars quilts. We're also featuring the Midnight Magic Embroidered Wall Hanging and Bow Tie Blossoms Quilt, two stunning projects to help sharpen your skills. And we're teaching technique this issue too: EPP with the Ingrid's Blooming Bed Runner pattern, and FPP with the Garden District Table Runner.

If you've ever dug through a bin of vintage fabric at an estate sale and felt your heart jump at a perfect feed sack print, you already know what Depression-era farm women discovered out of necessity: good fabric shows up in unexpected places. For them, it showed up in pretty cotton bags originally designed to hold grain, flour, and sugar. Take a deep dive with us into the art of feed sack quilting and fashion, and learn how these resourceful makers shaped the sewing landscape we know today.

America's 250th birthday is here, and quilters across the country are celebrating with a community quilt built from the combined effort of all 50 states. Take a look inside at this momentous project! We're also honoring our national heritage with an in-depth look at the double wedding ring quilt, exploring the history and significance behind this iconic pattern.

Then, meet Lorelai Kuecker, the young quilting whiz who's spent her teenage years honing her craft and building a business, Pigs in a Blanket Quilting. Her wearable quilts, from jackets and dresses to fun accessories like her Quilted Boot Straps and Hat Wrap, are sure to inspire. Yeehaw!

Don't miss the What If series, where the fan-favorite Harvest Stars quilt transforms from its crisp white coloring to a moody black-and-orange palette that captures the essence of fall. Want to make it your own? Grab your colored pencils and experiment on our blank graphs to test out different colorways before you ever cut into real fabric.

In our Quilters' Test Lab, meet the handy tools that fix mistakes, mark seams, turn, poke, and snip as needed. Read on to find a few new favorites for your sewing kit.

From cover to cover, BLOCK Magazine brings you 10 free patterns, helpful tips, and quilting inspiration to carry you through fall and beyond!

I love the awesome patterns and stories that are always inspiring and true to our daily lives! I have a feed sack quilt top that my grandmother hand made in the early 1940s. She hand stitched on the flour sacks the girl holding the umbrella over her head. She is wearing a large skirt, and a Monet on her head. Sue bonnet I believe is her name. There are I believe 12 different girls. Each are made using the tiny animal print that was popular then.

Exciting patterns and future projects

The article of the feed sack fashion and depression-era quilting was very interesting. Of course, the patterns are great, but I do like learning new unique things about our hobby. Sometime in the future, I would like to make Grandmother Willow. Double Wedding Ring is definitely on my list of next year’s quilts to make.

Nice issue with helpful tutorials

This is a nice issue, but it is not an exciting, page-turner. I watched Jenny's video tutorial and followed the instructions in BLOCK Magazine. I entered it in the County Fair and took 2nd place. I messed up on the sashing in one little place, and I added the sashing to Jenny's version. I have an auto-ship subscription started with the very FIRST issue, and I will look forward to the next issue. I have loyalty to MSQC and Jenny's mission.

Exciting quilt selection and great guidance

My quilt was one of those chosen for the community section. How cool was that. I never dreamed it would get selected. I love the detailed up close pictures that guide you through the process of completing a block.

Excellent quilt magazine for all projects

Great quilt magazine. It has a wonderful mix of patterns with very good instructions. Many patterns have video tutorials on Missouri Star Quilt Company's website that you can watch. I like the paper the BLOCK is printed on. Most BLOCK magazines have fun little stories included. I like that there is no advertising to distract from the patterns. All around, an excellent quilt magazine! I would love to dig right in making projects from the latest BLOCK, but I am working on six baby quilts for...

I enjoy the Block magazine for the variety of quilting articles and clear concise directions for making quilts. I like the variety of quilts represented, and in the 2026 Volume 13 Issue, I enjoyed reading about the history of quilts made in the USA, the Quilters Test Lab, the quilt designer articles, and specifically the Ingrid’s Blooming Bed Runner that involves hand embroidery that I love and hand stitching the blocks. The What If section is informative and fun. Other than this issue, I would...

The fact that it doesn't have any advertisements is a big plus. The quilt patterns range from simple to complex with really good instructions. It's a pleasure to read, and I've made quite a few quilts from your patterns. Thank you. Keep up the great work.

Wonderful projects and articles

I ordered the Christmas box last year and it was wonderful. There are so many fabulous projects for me to do and some lovely gifts that I gave to two young friends that have just started quilting. I currently have way too much fabric and UFOs for another one now. Maybe in a year or two. I also like the article on Lorelei's quilting, fabulous. I have a subscription to Block magazine. I would like to do some of the table runners. I think maybe Ingrid's Blooming Bed runner would be great for my...

Pulls you in

I love the stories and learning new quilting and piecing techniques. I love foundation paper piecing too, and it brings happiness to me every time I pick up a BLOCK magazine for new ideas or need a pick me up from the stories. I would love to see a pattern for a free download one day. I will probably start collecting fabric in batik for this project in spring, as I have the Underground Railroad from Eleanor Burns in progress with my quilt guild right now.
