Quilting Product Description

Hello, Fall! In Volume 13, Issue 4 of BLOCK Magazine, we're leaning into deep, saturated colors that capture the mood of back-to-school season and Halloween. Grab a cup of pumpkin spice and settle in with the Grandmother Willow and 60 Degree Stars quilts. We're also featuring the Midnight Magic Embroidered Wall Hanging and Bow Tie Blossoms Quilt, two stunning projects to help sharpen your skills. And we're teaching technique this issue too: EPP with the Ingrid's Blooming Bed Runner pattern, and FPP with the Garden District Table Runner.

If you've ever dug through a bin of vintage fabric at an estate sale and felt your heart jump at a perfect feed sack print, you already know what Depression-era farm women discovered out of necessity: good fabric shows up in unexpected places. For them, it showed up in pretty cotton bags originally designed to hold grain, flour, and sugar. Take a deep dive with us into the art of feed sack quilting and fashion, and learn how these resourceful makers shaped the sewing landscape we know today.

America's 250th birthday is here, and quilters across the country are celebrating with a community quilt built from the combined effort of

all 50 states. Take a look inside at this momentous project! We're also honoring our national heritage with an in-depth look at the double wedding ring quilt, exploring the history and significance behind this iconic pattern.

Then, meet Lorelai Kuecker, the young quilting whiz who's spent her teenage years honing her craft and building a business, Pigs in a Blanket Quilting. Her wearable quilts, from jackets and dresses to fun accessories like her Quilted Boot Straps and Hat Wrap, are sure to inspire. Yeehaw!

Don't miss the What If series, where the fan-favorite Harvest Stars quilt transforms from its crisp white coloring to a moody black-and-orange palette that captures the essence of fall. Want to make it your own? Grab your colored pencils and experiment on our blank graphs to test out different colorways before you ever cut into real fabric.

In our Quilters' Test Lab, meet the handy tools that fix mistakes, mark seams, turn, poke, and snip as needed. Read on to find a few new favorites for your sewing kit.

From cover to cover, BLOCK Magazine brings you 10 free patterns, helpful tips, and quilting inspiration to carry you through fall and beyond!

Great for digital organization

I prefer digital over paper/hard copy. I like the storage, filing, and not losing a pattern. When I save to my computer, I add to the title if it uses 10" squares, 5" squares, or 2.5" strips so when I am looking for a pattern to go with a precut I have, it is easy to search.

Inspiring patterns for various projects

I like the varied patterns, including more than just quilts. I'm mostly using it for table runners, but I'm inspired to try more ideas. I will send a photo soon.

I do not have block (vol) 13 issue 4, only have access to issue 3. Like quilt history combined with patterns. Like the test lab as if gives me ideas on how make better patchwork. Would like to see more of how to make better, more accurate blocks..

It is easy to get into the document. The articles are good. I can read on any devices I have. A bigger screen allows me to make the lettering larger, so it is easier to read.

Practical for various quilting projects

I enjoy the quilters test lab. It’s practical. I scan the patterns. I would like to see one dedicated theme and article. It’s become a bit wordy, I would prefer one more pattern instead of two articles. I like most all, just won’t be doing the paper piecing. I use it for HST for QOV and long arming baby quilts.
