Patriotic Fabric – Americana Quilt Fabric, Panels & Kits

Red, White & Blue Fabric for Every Patriotic Project
Stars and stripes are the classic, but patriotic quilt fabric goes well beyond the flag. Here you’ll find bald eagles, fireworks, the Statue of Liberty, vintage Americana florals, Declaration of Independence text prints and military branch fabrics, along with simple red, white and blue blenders that tie a quilt together. With America’s 250th anniversary in 2026, there are also new America 250 prints from Stonehenge and other makers.
We carry patriotic prints from Robert Kaufman, Northcott, Andover, Henry Glass, Windham and more. You can shop it several ways:
- Fabric by the yard for piecing, borders and backing.
- Panels: eagle, flag and military service panels make a quick quilt center you can frame with borders.
- 108” wide backing so you can back a full quilt with no seams.
- Precuts: browse patriotic precut fabric for red, white and blue jelly rolls, charm packs and fat quarter bundles.
- Kits: our patriotic quilt kits come with the pattern and fabric together.
Quilts for Veterans and Quilts of Valor
Many quilters use this fabric for veteran and Quilts of Valor projects. A common approach is a star or stripe top in red, white and blue, a back in the branch of service the veteran served in, and a label with their name, branch and dates of service. Our military fabrics include Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard prints, plus matching service panels.

Patriotic Fabric FAQs
What fabric is best for a Quilt of Valor?
Quality quilting cotton in red, white and blue. Stars, stripes, flags and tone-on-tone blenders are popular choices. Many makers use a branch-of-service print or a patriotic 108” wide back. The Quilts of Valor Foundation publishes size and fabric guidelines for its quilts, so check its current requirements before you start.
How can I use military branch fabric in a quilt?
Customers often use it on the back of a veteran’s quilt, in the branch they served in, so the front can stay classic red, white and blue. You can also fussy-cut the prints into blocks, use a service panel as the quilt center, or make pillowcases and gifts for service members and their families. A matching quilt label finishes the quilt.
Do I need to square up a fabric panel?
Sometimes. Panels are printed onto the fabric, so the image can sit slightly off-grain. Reviewers say most of our patriotic panels arrive nicely square, but one or two shrank a little unevenly after washing. Trim the panel to the printed edge or add borders, and measure across the middle before you cut your borders.
Why use 108" wide backing for a patriotic quilt?
Wide backing covers most quilt sizes in one piece, so there’s no seam to piece and less waste. Quilting groups like buying it for several Quilts of Valor at once. It also makes binding easy: one reviewer bound her quilt with the leftover backing.
How much fabric do I need for a patriotic quilt?
It depends on the pattern, so start with the pattern’s fabric requirements. As a guide, a throw-size quilt usually needs about 4–5 yards for the top and about 4 yards of standard 44” fabric for the back (or about 2 yards of 108” backing). Our yardage is sold by the quarter yard, so set the quantity to 4 for each full yard.
